Issey Miyake
With the aim of integrating traditional materials, techniques and methods with cutting-edge technology, Issey Miyake followed its founder’s philosophy: the creation of innovative clothing that was light, practical and washable – and crease-free. Garments are made from washi paper, rattan and bamboo, and his groundbreaking Pleats Please collection is inspired by origami-like patterns and steam-folded. Computer software is used to calculate the composition of different cotton and polyester weaves. Such trailblazing works earned Miyake the coveted Arts and Philosophy Kyoto Prize in 2006.
