Asahi

- FOUNDER: KOMAKICHI TORII

Founded as the Osaka Beer Company, Asahi Breweries adopted German brewing techniques to produce a beer fit for its local drinking scene. German prisoners worked in the brewery during World War I, a reminder that the company has been through not one but two world wars, and yet has kept its status as Japan’s top brew since 1903. Asahi Dry, the company’s first and most popular brew, makes sense given Japan’s strong food culture, as its smooth and dry taste pairs perfectly with the subtle, delicate flavours of the nation’s cuisine.
