San Miguel
During Spanish rule in the Philippines, businessman Enrique María Barreto founded La Fábrica de Cerveza San Miguel in Manila, under a Spanish Royal Charter that officially permitted the brewing of beer in the country. It was renamed San Miguel Brewery in 1913. In 2007, it became a subsidiary of San Miguel Corporation, and two years later, almost half of it was acquired by Kirin Holdings. However in 2010, San Miguel Brewery managed to acquire full ownership of brewing business, which allowed the company to combine its national and international markets. Today, it is the Philippines’ largest brewery with an overwhelming share of the market.
