Angkor
Famous for sculptural decorations of Angkor Wat and Angkor Thom, Angkor Archaeological Park encompasses the impressive remains of the Khmer empire, from the 9th to the 15th century. The cultural site was recognised by UNESCO in 1992. During research conducted in 2007, it was discovered that Angkor had been the largest pre-industrial city in the world through the detection of an elaborate infrastructure system sprawling over an area of 1,000 square kilometres.
