Potala Palace
Located in the Tibet Autonomous Region,
Potala Palace is situated more than 3,700 metres above sea level. It is believed that the structure was built for Princess Wencheng in the 7th century. A notable figure in the Tang Dynasty, she was known not only for her beauty, but also for her strength and courage. Today, the palace is divided into two, the Red Palace and the White Palace, serving as the religious and administrative sections, respectively.
