It is believed that death is not a sudden event, but rather a slow process that can go on for years. The body is preserved, often in a solution of formaldehy­de and water, and the mummy is fed, groomed, and walked till the expensive and extensive funeral – sometimes upwards of USD500,000 – can be arranged!
