Ponti
Ponti is told through three characters – two teenage friends Szu and Circe, and Szu’s dying mother, Amisa, who once had a brief career as the star of a series of obscure 70s horror movies. Ponti, short for pontianak – a female vampiric supernatural figure – serves as a metaphor for how tragedy can make monsters. It was shortlisted for the Edward Stanford Travel Writing Awards in the “Fiction with a Sense of Place” category as well as the Hearst Big
Book Awards in 2018.
