The first commercial device powered by Android debuted in 2008, and Google’s mobile operating system had become the best-selling OS worldwide on smartphones by 2011 and on tablets by 2013. Today, it has the largest installed base of any operating system, with over 2.6 million apps on the Google Play store, compared to 2.2 million on the Apple Store. Google finally launched its own Android-powered phones in 2016, Pixel and Pixel XL.
