Soros Foundation
The Open Society Foundations were founded by business magnate George Soros, who has donated more than USD32 billion of his personal fortune over the last 35 years. Member organisation Soros Foundation, Kazakhstan was formed to advance values of the Open Society in Kazakhstan in order to enforce human rights, ensure budget transparency, and increase social activism in society. It has granted more than USD70 million to promote civil-society initiatives in Kazakhstan since 1995, tackling a range of issues from HIV/AIDS prevention programmes to a variety of educational programmes, aimed at children and adults alike, to enhance skills for critical thinking and public debate.
