Yonex

- FOUNDER: MINORU YONEYAMA

What do fishing floats and racquets have in common? The nets! The other similarity is that Yoneyama produced both products different points in his career. The company was originally a producer of wooden fishing floats, which later died out, forcing Yonex founder Minoru Yoneyama to make a change. Determined to run the long race, he started making badminton racquets, first for other brands, and finally in 1961, under his own name. As a result, when one thinks “badminton”, one thinks “Yonex”. In 1969, Yonex introduced aluminium racquets for both badminton and tennis. From then on, they have made clubs, shoes, and balls as well. Yonex currently sponsors many Olympic events and athletes, and has also expanded from racquet sports to football and golf.
