Question and Answer on the Mountain

- By Li Bai Translated from Chinese

You ask for what reason I stay on the green mountain, I smile, but do not answer, my heart is at leisure. Peach blossom is carried far off by flowing water, Apart, I have heaven and earth in the human world.

LI BAI (701–762) was a Chinese poet who was hugely influential in his own time, and subsequent generations of Chinese have lauded him as a genius who took traditional poetic forms to new heights. He was known as one of the most prominent figures in the flourishing of Chinese poetry in the Tang dynasty, which is often referred to as the “Golden Age of Chinese Poetry”.
