Pacific Ocean

The Pacific Ocean covers an area of about 168.7 million square kilometres and is the world’s biggest ocean. Its area represents 46.6 percent of the world’s total water surface. The Pacific is located between Asia, Australia, the Americas, and Antarctica, forming a coastline of 135,663 kilometres. The Pacific Ocean also has two divisions, the North and the South Pacific Ocean, which are separated by the equator. The ocean has an average depth of 3,970 metres and a volume of 669.9 million cubic kilometres, which makes up about half of the Earth’s total water.

Indian Ocean

The Indian Ocean is the third largest, and covers a total area of 70.6 million square kilometers. Its area represents 19.5 percent of the Earth’s total surface. The Indian Ocean has an average depth of 3,741 metres and makes up 19.8 percent of the Earth’s total water. Africa, Australia, Asia and the Southern Ocean surround the ocean to the west, east, north, and south, respective­ly. The coastline of the Indian Ocean has a total length of 66,526 kilometres.
