Sanitary Wear

3,000 BCE

-

The ancient Egyptians created the first disposable tampon out of papyrus. Later, the ancient Greeks made theirs by wrapping lint around small pieces of wood. In Rome, wool was used. Historical records show that females from other parts of the world also took to paper, grass, moss and animal skins to absorb menstrual flow. It is also interesting to note that women prior to the 20th century menstruated less frequently because they married earlier, had more children, used less contraception, breastfed their children longer, and died much younger.
