Greens MLC slams call for shark cull

Augusta Margaret River Times - - News - Chloe Fraser

South West Greens MLC Diane Evers has voiced her concern over a push to resume shark culling in WA, saying it would not reduce risk to water users and is distracting the Federal Government from more effective measures.

Federal Environment Minister Josh Frydenberg publicly pressured the McGowan government to resume shark culling in WA. Ms Evans said the 2014 WA shark cull using drum lines was a “schemozzle” with not one great white shark caught. “The highly migratory nature of great white sharks means the entire population roaming between here and Bass Strait would have to be killed to make WA waters safe from them,” she said.
