Wine show to draw hun­dreds of en­tries as judges named

Judges have been an­nounced for the Lang­ton’s 2017 Mar­garet River Wine Show, which will re­turn to Ra­mada Re­sort in Duns­bor­ough from Oc­to­ber.

Oliver’s Taranga wine­maker and di­rec­tor Cor­rina Wright will re­turn as chair­woman of judges, while Fongyee Walker joins as an in­ter­na­tional judge through a part­ner­ship with Sin­ga­pore Air­lines.

Also on the judg­ing panel will be Bell­wether Wines’ Sue Bell, Pete Bis­sell from Bal­naves of Coon­awarra, Dave Brookes from Wine Mar­ket­ing Labs, Xanadu Wines’ Bren­dan Carr, Sut­ton Grange Es­tate’s Melanie Ch­ester, Gi­ant Steps’ Steve Flam­steed, Alex Hu­dak of Pure Wine Co, City Wine Shop’s Gabrielle Poy, Adam Wade­witz from Shaw + Smith and Vasse Felix’s Vir­ginia Will­cock.

Mar­garet River Wine As­so­ci­a­tion mar­ket­ing di­rec­tor Amanda White­land said this year’s show had 21 judges and as­so­ciates as­sess­ing an an­tic­i­pated 750-plus en­tries.

Sin­ga­pore Air­lines WA man­ager David Pinches said the air­liner was proud to be­gin its as­so­ci­a­tion with the show and noted the Mar­garet River in­dus­try was cel­e­brat­ing 50 years at the same time the com­pany was cel­e­brat­ing 50 years of fly­ing to Perth.

“We are also pleased to be fly­ing Bei­jing-based Fongyee Walker to Perth as the in­ter­na­tional judge for the Lang­ton’s Mar­garet River Wine Show,” he said.

En­tries for the Lang­ton’s 2017 Mar­garet River Wine Show and the Halliday Wine Com­pan­ion Aus­tralian Caber­net Chal­lenge open this month.
