Councillor praised for core values stance

Augusta Margaret River Times - - Letters - Peta Goodwin Margaret River

I want to thank Cr Naomi Godden for her consistent, articulate, persistent and unapologetic stance in council with regard to the integration of the core values of our Vision Statement for 2036 (care for the environment, social justice and economic sustainability) into the daily practices of Shire administration.

Cr Godden always speaks for these values to be the baseline for decision-making in council and argues for discussion on how to realise them to be prioritised over “pushing things through” and meeting time frames, budgets, targets and other administrative goals. She continues to maintain her position politely and reasonably despite impatience and frustration from some in the chambers. Often her arguments garner support in the end from her colleagues.

Changing core beliefs and bureaucratic systems is time-consuming and uphill work and I am grateful for councillors with the appetite for it and the will to keep working at it.
