Kudardup fireys contain escaped blaze

Augusta Margaret River Times - - News -

A minor bushfire off Caves Road in the south of the shire was caused by an escaped private burn.

The Parks and Wildlife Service managed the response to the blaze, but Kudardup Volunteer Bushfire Brigade was first on the scene and contained the fire.

Shire of Augusta-Margaret River chief bushfire control officer David Holland said the response was scaled back to a single truck.

“The fire burnt approximately half a hectare and was predominantly on private land, with some impact to Shire reserve and Department of Biodiversity Conservation and Attractions land,” he said. “Landowners are encouraged to (ensure) that all firefighting equipment is serviced and ready for use.”

The blaze follows warnings last week from firefighters that weather conditions were perfect for burning off — provided burn piles were kept small and monitored.
