Teen follows in famous wakes
Sally Fitzgibbons, Stephanie Gilmore, Gabriel Medina — and soon you will be able to add Emma Cattlin to the list.
The Yallingup teenager will follow in the footsteps of a long list of surfing greats when she competes at this year’s ISA World Junior Surfing Championship.
The 16-year-old South West Academy of Sport athlete will join future stars of the sport at Huntington Beach, California, from October 27 to November 4, when she will fly the flag for Australia at the biggest junior surfing competition in the world.
The only WA girl to make the 12strong Woolworths Australian Junior Surfing Team, Emma secured her ticket to Surf City USA following out- standing results in the 2017 Surf N Ski Australian Junior Surf Titles.
Emma claimed third at nationals in December and then cemented her status as one of the country’s top junior surfers by claiming the under-18 girls’ State champion title.
She is looking forward to her time on the international stage as she progresses her surfing career.
