Teen fol­lows in fa­mous wakes

Sally Fitzgib­bons, Stephanie Gil­more, Gabriel Med­ina — and soon you will be able to add Emma Cat­tlin to the list.

The Yallingup teenager will fol­low in the foot­steps of a long list of surf­ing greats when she com­petes at this year’s ISA World Ju­nior Surf­ing Cham­pi­onship.

The 16-year-old South West Academy of Sport ath­lete will join fu­ture stars of the sport at Hunt­ing­ton Beach, Cal­i­for­nia, from Oc­to­ber 27 to Novem­ber 4, when she will fly the flag for Aus­tralia at the biggest ju­nior surf­ing com­pe­ti­tion in the world.

The only WA girl to make the 12strong Wool­worths Aus­tralian Ju­nior Surf­ing Team, Emma se­cured her ticket to Surf City USA fol­low­ing out- stand­ing re­sults in the 2017 Surf N Ski Aus­tralian Ju­nior Surf Ti­tles.

Emma claimed third at na­tion­als in De­cem­ber and then ce­mented her sta­tus as one of the coun­try’s top ju­nior surfers by claim­ing the un­der-18 girls’ State cham­pion ti­tle.

She is look­ing for­ward to her time on the in­ter­na­tional stage as she pro­gresses her surf­ing ca­reer.
