Seniors Week celebrations

Augusta Margaret River Times - - News -

Almost 80 community groups and local governments will share in $80,000 of State Government funding to host events this Seniors Week, which will be marked across WA from November 11-17.

Funded through the Seniors Week 2018 Community Grants Program, an array of events will celebrate seniors, encourage active ageing and bring generations of people together.

Seniors and Ageing Minister Mick Murray said Seniors Week was a time to acknowledge and honour older people.

“That is exactly what we’re doing with these wonderfully varied Seniors Week events,” he said.

“As a regional Member of Parliament, I am particularly pleased to see so many of these grants supporting events and activities in regional communities and I encourage all Western Australians, regardless of age, to get involved in Seniors Week.

“Each event will bring something to the people who organise it, their community and, of course, the distinguished Western Australian seniors celebrated.”

The Shire of Augusta-Margaret River was one of the local governments to receive funding for its Seniors Week celebrations, among other South West organisations.

Grants of up to $3000 were made available and administered by the Council on the Ageing WA. The program is supported by the State Government and Lotterywest.
