Cycling activity in Nannup reaches fever pitch this weekend as this year’s edition of the Tour of Margaret River comes to town.

Top international professionals come together with amateurs for one of WA’s premier cycling events.

Busselton Cycling Club has three teams of six riders trained and ready to pin on the race numbers of Friday, Saturday and Sunday racing.

Friday’s ride is a 40km team time trial from Balingup to Nannup.

Saturday will test the climbing legs, with a hilly route from Nannup to Greenbushes, and on Sunday stamina will be tested with a 104km loop from Nannup via Brockman Highway, Sues Road and Mowen Road.

There are trophies for overall, best over-50, best under-19, the climbers trophy and the coveted team award.

Club president Carol May has tipped Courtland Wood as one to watch for the under-19 category, the light-framed Mike Vibert or Neil Mendum for the climbers award, evergreens Roger Shooter or Steve Marks for over-50 honours, and fast finishers Jamie Coutts, Jarryd Heldt or Cr Lyndon Miles as chances for an overall win.
