Alzheimer’s WA scheme rolls out in the re­gion

Mar­garet River was of­fi­cially listed as a de­men­tia-friendly com­mu­nity this week.

With funds from the Shire of Au­gusta-Mar­garet River, lo­cal Li­ons and Rotary, the Alzheimer’s WA scheme was un­veiled on Wed­nes­day.

Chief ex­ec­u­tive Rhonda Parker said Alzheimer’s WA was “de­lighted” Mar­garet River would be the lat­est re­gional cen­tre “to em­brace the ini­tia­tive that em­pow­ers com­mu­ni­ties with the knowl­edge on how best to sup­port and in­volve peo­ple liv­ing with de­men­tia”.

Mrs Parker said a de­men­tia di­ag­no­sis was of­ten ac­com­pa­nied by stigma, iso­la­tion, dis­crim­i­na­tion and mis­un­der­stand­ing .
