Mal­ibu Clas­sic at Yallingup

Augusta Margaret River Times - - Trades & Services - Therese Col­man Yallingup’s Jar­ryd Fos­ter was the Yallingup Mal­ibu Clas­sic’s open men’s win­ner last year.

Long­board­ers will hit the waves for the an­nual Yallingup Mal­ibu Clas­sic this week­end at Yallingup Main Break.

Hosted by the In­dian Ocean Long­board Club, the event is in its 34th year and marks the end of the 2018 WA long­board com­pe­ti­tion sea­son.

This year’s com­pe­ti­tion con­sists of 13 di­vi­sions, in­clud­ing a teams event, open “eight-footer” di­vi­sion, un­der-18 ju­nior men’s and women’s and open log­ger. Past win­ners in­clude Justin Red­man, brother of pro­fes­sional surfer Melanie Red­man-Carr, who won the open di­vi­sion for the 11th time in 2016.

Two-time Aus­tralian cham­pion Ge­or­gia Young, from Cottes­loe, won last year’s open women’s di­vi­sion, Duns­bor­ough’s Jar­ryd Fos­ter was the open men’s win­ner, and best wipe­out went to Mar­garet River’s Doug Carruthers.

The event will be held to­mor­row and on Sun­day.
