Street party to have festive flair
Lilac Link will hold its annual Christmas street party tomorrow night, with all proceeds going to local charity River Angels.
Festivities kick off at 5.30pm, with Margaret River police expected to bring Santa Claus to the party with them about 7pm.
A fire truck, ice-cream van, sausage sizzle, face painting, cake stall and a raffle — as well as a few party games — are all set to make the list.
Lilac Link matriarch Kristi Head said the fundraiser started after visiting the Christmas lights in Perth many years back.
“We’d always see people fundraising for the guide dogs or whatever, so we decided to do River Angels,” she said.
The family also decorate their house for Halloween, attracting gawkers every year.
“We get asked every year, ‘Are you doing Christmas again?’,” Mrs Head said.
“Everyone starts asking our kids at school in around October.”
The informal event has grown during the past four years, but for- tunately Mrs Head’s husband Marty is an electrician.
Other neighbours in the festive street will also get in on the Christmas action by Saturday night.
Mrs Head said the River Angels tin would be in front of the house all month and encouraged residents to donate to the charity supporting residents with cancer.
Anyone attending the street party is asked to park their vehicles far from Lilac Link and to be respectful of other residents in surrounding streets.
Kristi Head, right, with neighbours Paula Lancaster and Di Skender, is leading Lilac Link’s annual Christmas fundraising street party.
