While the risk of a shark encounter in WA is very low, there are some simple things everyone can do to help keep safe at the beach.

• Stay up to date with shark sightings by monitoring the SharkSmart website and visiting Surf Lifesaving WA’s Twitter feed.

• Swim at a patrolled beach, or one with a designated beach enclosure.

• Take advantage of the State Government’s $200 rebate offer and purchase an approved personal shark deterrent device for surfers and divers.

• Listen to authorities. If the beach is closed, don’t go in the water.
