DESERTX CONQUERS FINKE TRACK

Ducati Australia product specialist and DRE Adventure Academy chief instructor Nick Selleck has given the Ducati DesertX a special introduction to the red centre of Australia by charging from Alice Springs to Finke and back in one day via the famed Finke Desert Race track.

What’s more, Selleck completed the 460km return trip using less than one tank of fuel, his standard DesertX fitted with Ducati’s factory eight-litre auxiliary tank.

Timed to take place not long after the annual Tatts Finke Desert Race, the course was at its roughest after being pounded by a massive field of bike, ATV and rally vehicles.

All up Selleck spent three full days and over 1,000km riding the track, which included track reconnaissance and filming opportunities.

On the third day he launched the thereand-back challenge and was stoked that the DesertX came through with flying colours.

“After a total of three days in the saddle, and a full day riding there and back with little stopping, one thing remains certain: the DesertX has been the perfect companion for this trip,” Selleck enthused afterwards.

“Not only is the bike comfortable and balanced just right for this sort of terrain, but it is very light — something that I have no doubt helped with the fuel economy.”

When asked what comes next after completing such an incredible journey, the racer in Nick was quick to respond.

“I’m very keen to give the Finke race a go next time!” he exclaimed.

With a film crew in tow during the ride, Ducati Australia has now produced a documentary on Selleck’s Finke charge, entitled Mission: Un-Finkeable, that can be viewed via Ducati Australia’s social channels.
