?? ?? JVC GC-S1 (1998) A big name in video camcorders at the time, it made sense for JVC to jump into digital cameras and this expertise enabled it to equip the GC-S1 with a long 10x zoom… f1.6 speed too. It also allowed for wireless printing from the camera (via an IrTran-P infrared port) and had a massive (for the time) 4.0 MB internal memory.

?? ?? Ricoh RDC-4200 (1998) There was a deluge of Ricoh digital compacts during the late 1990s and, with the RDC-4200, it took the bold step of eliminating an optical viewfinder… hence the tiltable twopiece body which allowed for the LCD monitor screen to be angled for optimum viewing. It didn’t go down well at first, but soon everybody was doing it.

?? ?? Fujifilm FinePix F402 (2002) Fujifilm pursued the slimline theme with quite a number of FinePix compacts, but the pretty F402 was a standout – just 22 mm in depth and 120 grams in weight. Brushed metal bodyshell added class while, on the inside, a ‘Super CCD III’ sensor delivered 4.0 MP resolution.
