NIKON PHOTO CONTEST 2018-2019 OPEN FOR ENTRIES

Photo Contest 2018-2019 is open for entries from now until 3:00pm on 31 January (Australian Eastern Standard Time). Since the first contest was held in 1969, more than 410,000 photograph­ers from around the world have submitted over 1,620,000 images. The 36th (2016-2017) contest attracted 76,356 works from 21,511 photograph­ers in 170 countries and regions. This marked a new record for the competitio­n in terms of the number of countries from which submission­s were made.

For the 2018-2019 contest, art director Neville Brody – who is CEO of Brody Associates – has been appointed lead judge, having also held this position in the previous competitio­n. Brody’s work spans over more than three decades, and ranges from album sleeves to corporate branding for global businesses, and is influentia­l among a wide variety of artists, including photograph­ers who will lead the next generation.

The Nikon Photo Contest 2018-2019 again has three categories – Open, Next Generation and Short Film. The theme for the Open category is ‘Change’ and Nikon is calling for entries that express the changes you want to share with the world. You can submit a single image or a photo story comprising of two to five images.

The theme for the Next Generation category – which is open to photograph­ers aged 25 and younger – is ‘Identity’, and Nikon says it is looking for Nikon looks for “…entries unique to younger generation­s that explore who they are. Again, entrants can submit a single image or a photo story comprising of two to five images.

The theme for the Short Film category is ‘Hope’ with entries exploring the idea of shining “a hopeful light on the path to the future”.

The Contest is open to all profession­al and amateurs, regardless of age, gender, or nationalit­y. Entry is free and images do not need to have been taken using Nikon cameras.
