PINK LADY FOOD PHOTOGRAPHER THE YEAR 2021
Celebrating its tenth anniversary, the world’s premier international photography awards celebrating all aspects of food and wine again attracted a record number of entries.
Chinese photographer Li Huaifeng is the overall winner of the Pink Lady Food Photographer Of The Year award for 2021, with a tender and subtly powerful image entitled, Taste. The competition is the world’s leading celebration of the art of food photography and film, and this year received almost 10,500 entries were submitted from over 70 countries around the world, a record number. The Pink Lady ® Food Photographer Of The Year is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year.
Commenting on the winning image, Caroline Kenyon, Director/Founder of the awards noted, “This picture is technically outstanding in its use of light and composition, but what raises it to the level of historic importance is the depth of its storytelling and emotion. It tells of a year of isolation and living indoors, living in tiny communities of immediate family. Here, the scene is bathed with love, with echoes of the Madonna and Child. It’s an exceptional shot which perfectly demonstrates that photography need not shock or disturb to be great or memorable. This exquisite image lingers in the mind”.
A special new category was introduced for 2021 in memory of Claire Aho, Finland’s greatest woman photographer. The unaugural Claire Aho Award For Women Photographers was won by Italian photographer Marina Spironetti with her magnificent portrait, Female Butchers of Panzano – Martina. Martina is one of the women who has been trained by Dario Cecchini, the world-famous butcher of Panzano.
This year’s international judging panel was once again chaired by legendary food photographer, David Loftus. Among the judges were Fiona Shields, Head of Photography at Guardian News & Media; writer and curator Susan Bright; cookbook author and photographer Nik Sharma, chef Simone Zanoni of Restaurant Le George at the Four Seasons in Paris; Alison Jacques, founder of Alison Jacques Gallery; and Vitalie Taittinger, President of Champagne Taittinger.
An exhibition of all the 2021 winners and finalists will be on show at The Royal Photographic Society’s gallery in Bristol, United Kingdom. The RPS is one of the world’s oldest photographic societies. The exhibition will run from 20 November to 12 December this year and entry is free.
