FUJIFILM SHOWCASE 2021

-

The 2022 Showcase is now open, and the grand prize winner for 2021 is revealed in this issue. It could be you next year, so start preparing those entries. You can enter by sending digital files to us on either a DVD or USB drive, or submit your images online at camera@futurenet.com.

Although this year was another with frequent lockdowns around the country and ongoing travel restrictions, Fujifilm Showcase entrants still managed to find plenty to photograph, perhaps not far from home. Once again, we ended up with 12 strong finalists – we now include the Highly Commended images in the final reckoning – but the judges were unanimous in their choice of an overall winner. In what could be described as a challenging year for many, John Walker’s image Window Pain got everybody smiling. John’s picture won the second round of the 2021 competition and, as we noted at the time, captured a wellspotted juxtaposition of elements, enhanced by his witty title. Ironically, the location is actually an old asylum in Tasmania. In his submission, John commented, “Afterwards, I did wonder if I should have checked to make sure they weren’t real... ” He wins a Fujifilm X-T200 mirrorless camera packaged with the XC 15-45mm f/3.5-5.6 OIS PZ zoom lens and valued at $1,299. Regular readers may remember we featured more of John’s work in the May/June 2021 issue where he revealed he’s been entering the Fujifilm Showcase competition for the best part of 30 years. Persistence has finally paid off!
