Naked eye March/April evening skies present a contrast. High in the south lies the spectacular southern Milky Way, including the Southern Cross and Carina regions. To the north, out of the plane of our galaxy, there are few bright stars and almost no clusters.

Small telescope NGC 3532 is an open star cluster, to the east of the eta Carinae nebulae region. It’s oval in shape and often called the Football Cluster. It looks impressive through any wide-field instrument as it is peppered with about 100 bright stars.
