Blue skate

Notoraja azurea

Length: 65cm

This pretty heart-shaped skate is coloured grey-blue to dark blue on its upper surface but is brown on its underside. It has a long, very slender tail, with two rows of thorns. In Australia it occurs off the southern coastline, where it usually forages in sediments at depths of between 765m and 1140m on the continental slope.
