Walking on volcanoes

-

You can explore various volcanic sites on foot. At Tower Hill there are four designated walking tracks within the volcano reserve, including the short but steep Peak Climb. At Mt Eccles, the 6.5km Lava Canal walk is rated as hard and can take at least two hours. The crater and rim of Mt Elephant are generally only accessible on Sundays from 1pm to 4pm. The walk up from the visitors centre to the crater and then up to the rim circuit is about 2km and rated as hard. At Mount Gambier, the easy 3.6km circuit walk of the Blue Lake takes about 45 minutes. There are other walking trails in the wider lakes complex.
