“THAT’S NOT A KNIFE.

That’s a knife.” From 26 September 1986, these now famous cinematic words played on 879 screens across the USA as Crocodile Dundee opened for its first major screening outside Australia. It would go on to rack up the biggest profit of any Australian film before or since – more than US$328 million worldwide. It was an instant sensation, almost paying for itself by the end of its opening US weekend. Crocodile Dundee is the number one highest-grossing Australian movie of all time at the Australian box office. Paul Hogan, who played the laid-back and adventurous Mick ‘Crocodile’ Dundee, won a Golden Globe Award for Best Actor in a Musical or Comedy for his charismatic lead.
