Lo­cated in a re­stored 19th-cen­tury con­vent, this mu­seum ded­i­cated to Cook has a col­lec­tion of arte­facts from that first voy­age, in­clud­ing an an­chor and a can­non he jet­ti­soned while try­ing to free En­deav­our from the Great Bar­rier Reef. It also tells the his­tory of the town that grew up in the place Cook stopped to repair his ship, in­clud­ing its Indige­nous past, Chi­nese her­itage and sto­ries of its mar­itime cul­ture.
