COOK’S LEGACY
Hannah James wrote a nice article on James Cook, Cook’s legacy (AG 145), but missed one of his most important stops, the town of 1770, in Queensland. A memorial statue of Cook used to be at the tip of the peninsula and the town was small when I first saw it in 1966; later Cook’s head was gone, and the town has grown. The plaque describing Cook’s stay cleaning and repairing his boat is still there.
