A bonzer year

THE NOMINATIONS HAVE rolled in thick and fast for this year’s Australian Geographic Society adventure awards. It’s an encouraging sign that more and more people are stepping out of their comfort zones and following their dreams of epic adventures of every kind. A recurring theme in the 2018 line-up of nominees is adventurers achieving amazing feats despite facing huge personal or physical challenges and there are some ripper stories here. It’s a shame they can’t all be handed gold medallions on Friday 26 October at the Australian Geographic Gala awards dinner in Sydney, because, to us, they’re all heroes whether they win or not.
