On page 66 of AG 146 ( Chain of Isles) the tug SS Penguin is mentioned as having been used as a survey vessel by the West Australian government. While this tug may have taken soundings as part of its role as a harbour tug, the actual survey vessel was

HMS Penguin, a single-propeller composite sloop-barque.

HMS Penguin was transferred to the Royal Australian Navy in 1913 and renamed HMAS Penguin.
