On page 66 of AG 146 ( Chain of Isles) the tug SS Pen­guin is men­tioned as hav­ing been used as a sur­vey ves­sel by the West Aus­tralian gov­ern­ment. While this tug may have taken sound­ings as part of its role as a har­bour tug, the ac­tual sur­vey ves­sel was

HMS Pen­guin, a sin­gle-pro­pel­ler com­pos­ite sloop-bar­que.

HMS Pen­guin was trans­ferred to the Royal Aus­tralian Navy in 1913 and re­named HMAS Pen­guin.
