Drones and the law
Recreational drones weighing 2kg or less must not fly higher than 120 METRES, and flying within 30 METRES of people, including at beaches, parks and public events, is prohibited.
Drones can only be flown in daylight hours and in line-of-sight. Drones can’t be flown within 5.5km of a controlled aerodrome.
With the growing use of drones has come increased public concern about their potential to invade privacy, whether deliberately or inadvertently.
Australia’s privacy laws are complex and there is no specific legislation to protect an individual’s privacy from the prying eye of a recreational drone. Laws also vary from state to state.
