Atticus Fleming
ATTICUS GREW up in central-western NSW and has dedicated his life to conserving Australia’s wildlife and habitats. As inaugural Chief Executive of the Australian Wildlife Conservancy (AWC), he managed its 2002–18 growth from a small WA operation to the world’s largest private owner of land for conservation, overseeing 46,500sq.km across iconic regions such as the Kimberley and central Australia. Atticus led AWC in developing a new conservation model, protecting some of the largest remaining populations of many threatened Australian species. The AWC is now custodian of some of the largest remaining populations of many threatened species, including bilbies, numbats and Gouldian finches.
