EXPERIENCE 30,000 FLYING FOXES, YARRA BEND PARK, MELBOURNE

Relocated some years ago from Melbourne’s Royal Botanic Gardens, where it was causing widespread damage to heritagelisted vegetation, this colony of fruit bats can swell from 6000 in winter to more than 30,000 in summer. See it, while these noisy mammals roost during the day, from the Bellbird Picnic area Yarra Boulevard. The city skyline provides a picturesque backdrop.
