A KOALA CRISIS
Few animals are as recognisably Australian as the koala. Yet this fluffy grey marsupial icon is doing it tough in some areas. In NSW, for example, numbers have been declining due to factors including habitat loss, predation by domestic dogs, bushfires, vehicular strikes and disease. The Friends of the Koala Care Centre in Lismore, NSW, cares for injured and sick koalas. This centre maintains a 24/7 hotline for rescuing sick and injured koalas. It then rehabilitates and releases them safely back into the bush. The centre needs our support to ensure koalas continue to get the care they need.
