It’s about a month and a half into my 5000km camel journey, coast to coast across Australia (see Your Society, AG 156) and I’m skirting around Lake Austin near the small town of Cue, Western Australia. Already it seems like an age ago when we left the beautiful turquoise blue Indian Ocean and headed inland, full of anticipation. We have almost fully settled into our routine of daily trekking: there are still challenges, but along with them some amazing highs as well.

I’ve seen some incredible landscapes so far – areas of the country that are close to impossible to access via car. And even if you could, you probably wouldn’t experience it in the same peaceful pace as via a camel. We’ve seen sandstone bluffs, stumbled up and over rocky hills, skirted around the mirage of glistening salt lakes, seen every beautiful sunrise and sunset and gone to sleep under the blanket of the Milky Way. Every day is a new type of scenery and a new place to camp.
