CLEAN UP AUSTRALIA 2021

-

You’ll have to move fast if you want to participate in this year’s events because they are happening on Sunday 7 March.

There’s been a surge in single-use disposable items such as takeaway coffee cups, food packaging, face masks and sanitising wipes – all of which are now polluting parks, bushland, streets, waterways and beaches in higher numbers than before. Research has revealed more than one in three (34 per cent) of households self-identified as producing more packaging waste in 2020, with its widespread extended lockdown periods, compared with previous years. More than one in two (55 per cent) reported they are now more concerned about product packaging waste than they were in 2019.

“Last year saw immense disruption to our lives, not least of all to our local environments, which have been impacted by increased uptake of single use disposable items,” says Clean Up Australia Chair Pip Kiernan. “We know Australians everywhere are itching to get involved in Clean Up Australia. Indeed, it’s never been more important to get involved and make a real difference.”

Whether you’re a first-time volunteer or a more seasoned Clean Up champion looking to get involved, now is the time for you to register your interest.
