Lake Macquarie

THIS COASTAL lagoon commands a large presence along Australia’s east coast, with a surface area of 110sq.km and a shoreline of 174km. Along its shores is a string of communities: from the former industrial town of Boolaroo in the north, to Swansea, a community shaped by both the lake and the sea, in the east; and from the historic town of

Toronto in the west, to Chain Valley Bay in the south. The communities share the shore with industry, including two power stations, and tracts of bush contained in the Lake Macquarie State Conservation Area.
