JOHN NOLAN
Abendigo INDEPENDENT
It’s hard to believe John Nolan’s third solo album spans just eight tracks. At times scrappy and at others jaw-droppingly meticulous, Abendigo plays like a passion project that simply couldn’t be achieved with another mind behind it. There are hints of the melody he revels in with Taking Back Sunday on cuts like “Half A Block To Go”, but elsewhere, Nolan taps into a wealth of cerebral maturity – his fretwork is gravelly, tinged with hints of gurgling bass and whistling feedback (and on “Over Before It Begins”, some downright luscious orchestral strings). The markings of producer Mike Sapone are predictably strewn all over, and unsurprisingly,
Abendigo proves once more that Nolan and Sapone are a true post-hardcore power couple.
