Positive Rising: Part 1

DZ Deathrays’ transition from leather jacket dance-punks to summer-ready garage-rockers continues on LP4, with lashings of scuzzy, crunchy guitars slicked over at every turn with rollicking hooks and sticky-sweet melodies. The addition of new shredder Lachlan Ewbank throws a beautifully spicy new flavour into the fold, too, he and Shane Parsons riffing to each other’s strengths with a fierce dexterity. Positive

Rising:Part1 doesn’t quite reach the highs it so often hints at, but the nine-track thrill ride already has us chomping at the bit for next year’s sequel. Plus, it’s here you’ll find DZ’s best song to date: the equally sweet and searing “A Lot To Lose”.
