Learn the essentials of this vital scale fast!

1) E BLUES SCALE

Make sure to learn this much used blues scale shape. Played over the E root note, the dissonant Bb note gives the scale its dark and edgy sound.

2) E BLUES SCALE UP ONE OCTAVE

Move the shape up 12 frets (one octave) to another area of the fretboard to try out your blues scale lead ideas. You’ll need to use more fingers for this shape though!

3) G BLUES SCALE WITH INTERVALS

Using the same shape as before at different frets shows you how you can move the blues scale to a different pitch. We’ve shown intervals here (1 b3 4 b5 5 b7) instead of notes (G Bb C Db D F) – the notes are different in every key, so it’s often easier to remember the intervals.
