halCro Changes owners
Famous Australian amplifier manufacturer Halcro is now under new ownership and is clearing out old stock at low prices. Halcro is now owned by Mike Kirkham, who also owns Magenta Audio, a South Australian-based importer and distributor of pro audio and home audio equipment. ‘ We’ve been in negotiations with the owners of Halcro for a long time now, but have now acquired all the assets of the Halcro business; designs, patents and intellectual property, tooling and production jigs,’ said Kirkham. ‘ Even better, we have several notable former employees on board including Dr Peter Foster and Lance Hewitt.’ Foster has a PhD in Physics and was previously a Senior Laser Physicist at Norseld Pty. Ltd, as well as Guest Scientist at the University of Bayreuth (Germany). Hewitt was the very first employee Halcro ever had. He was responsible for much of Halcro’s product development and designed the boards for the DM series amplifiers. Kirkham told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine that the plan was to design, build and launch an improved version of Halcro’s DM range, but in order to finance it he was selling off some of the older MC amplifiers at clearance prices. Models available at clearance prices are the Halcro MC20 (2-channel) at $2,995 (previously $6,250), the Halcro MC30 (3-channel) at $3,373 (previously $6,760), the Halcro MC50 (5-channel) at $4,198 (previously $7,888) and the Halcro MC70 (7-channel) at $4,873 (previously $9,020).
