ARcAm AiRDAc

When Arcam released its AirDAC last year it hadn’t figured on component shortages that would leave it unable to meet demand. The good news is that the component manufacturers are now back on-stream and AirDACs are now rolling out of Arcam’s factory. As a result of the hiatus, Arcam has decided to do a full re-launch for the AirDAC, this time around with the added bonus of markedly-increased cross-platform functionality thanks to UPnP streaming and a new free SongBook UPnP Control App. ‘ Arcam’s AirDAC is the only audiophile-quality Airplay-enabled component on the market,’ said John Davies of Sennheiser Brands, which distributes Arcam in Australia. ‘ But it’s a true totally cross-platform, multi-format capable device that will play music wirelessly from just about any Smartphone or computer via Wi-Fi and will deliver a massive performance uplift on Bluetooth and computer-grade Wi-Fi streaming, as well as from CD/DVD/Blu-ray players, Smart TVs and more.’ The new Arcam AirDAC has full Wireless UPnP streaming for PC and Android users, so it’s now a fully-fledged high-resolution network/internet UPnP streamer when used in conjunction with the free Arcam SongBook iPhone/Pad app or any Android UPnP app such as BubbleUPnP, UPnPlay etc and all UPnP-enabled PCs, NAS drives etc. To facilitate hardwiring the AirDAC into your system, it has SPDIF and optical digital inputs, and high-class analogue outputs plus an SPDIF output. ‘ At just $700 the Arcam airDAC happily outperforms many more expensive streaming solutions,’ Davies told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine.
