WAdiA intuition 01

-

Wadia has introduced an amplidac, the Intuition 01, which combines a high-performance DAC with a digital pre-amp and an output stage that uses Class D+ technology to deliver a claimed 350-watts per channel into 4Ω loads. The focus of the Intuition is on digital inputs, with the Wadia offering 192kHz/24bit coaxial, optical and AES inputs and a 384kHz/32-bit USB input. There are also two analog inputs, though these are converted to digital inside the Intuition by a high resolution, 32-bit AD/DA 1.5MHz converter to enable digital signal processing including digital control over volume level. The Intuition 01 uses a new version of Wadia’s Digimaster algorithm Wadia calls Delta-SigMaster, which is a 1.536MHz upsampling algorithm (FIR 1.200 taps) together with an ESS 9018 SabreDAC. ‘ Combined, these two technologies provide the decoding horsepower to deliver effortless musical performance,’ said Philip Sawyer, of Synergy Audio Visual, which distributes Wadia in Australia. ‘ The Intuition 101 represents musicality and stunning design combined in a component destined to become an instant classic.’ The Intuition 01 uses the latest generation of Wadia’s proprietary Digital Volume Control that varies the volume level in the digital domain, thereby eliminating distortion and noise that can be introduced by analog volume controls. To avoid sacrificing resolution at low volume levels, Wadia uses all 32-bits available from the DAC. ‘ This innovative method allows the Intuition 01 to maintain high resolution even at the lowest volume control settings,’ Sawyer told Australian Hi-Fi Magazine, ‘ and as a result, a 24-bit signal from a digital source can be attenuated by as much as 48dB without loss of
